Patagonia. The name alone conjures images of vast horizons, raw landscapes, and true adventure. It is quite literally the end of the world, where the South American continent dissolves into a maze of islands, canals, inlets, and fjords, and where the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans meet. Spanning more than 60,000 square miles across southern Chile and Argentina, Patagonia is immense, remote, and largely untouched. Untamed plains stretch to the horizon, dramatic mountain ranges rise sharply from the earth, active volcanoes punctuate the skyline, and massive glaciers dominate the landscape.

Patagonia is one of those legendary places that almost everyone has heard of, yet few have experienced firsthand. At Rawhyde, we believe that should change. For adventure riders, Patagonia offers everything you could possibly want. It is wild yet welcoming, remote yet accessible, and remarkably pristine. The region boasts one of the highest concentrations of national parks anywhere in the world, and it remains notably safe and stable at a time when much of the world feels uncertain.

The culture of Patagonia is equally compelling. Some of South America’s finest wines, most flavorful barbecues, wildest rivers, and bluest glaciers all converge here at the southern tip of the continent. Vast estancias, or working ranches, continue to serve as cultural centers and islands of civilization within some of the most remote terrain on the planet. As part of this journey, we will stay at one of these remarkable enclaves, offering a rare glimpse into the heart of Patagonian life.

Our adventure begins just south of Chile’s capital, Santiago. We will gather for a welcome dinner and orientation at a beautiful winery outside the city before setting out on our journey. From there, we ride south along the base of the Andes, entering Chile’s legendary southern regions and continuing down the stunning Carretera Austral through the volcano and lake districts. The route then leads back into Argentina via some of the most breathtaking dirt roads and mountain trails the Andes have to offer.

Along the way, we will stay in the best available hotels and enjoy the famous parillas of both Chile and Argentina. A parilla is far more than a grilled meal. It is a celebration, a gathering, and a reflection of Patagonian culture, shared around the table at the end of unforgettable days on the trail. This is Patagonia as it is meant to be experienced.
